Emergency services including the air ambulance were called to a ‘welfare incident’ yesterday morning.
Cleveland Fire Brigade, the Yorkshire Air Ambulance and Cleveland Police attended the area of Saltburn Road, at around 10.02am with video uploaded to social media showing the air ambulance over land near Huntcliff.
Footage also shows flashing blue lights as a number of 999 crews deal with the incident.
Cleveland Fire Brigade has confirmed the call-out was a “welfare incident”.
No further details of the incident have been released.
Local employer Anglo American has announced that it will be shutting its Scarborough office as part of a ‘slowdown’ that will see hundreds more lose their jobs at the Woodsmith Mine.
Zetland FM’s Matthew Collins reports:
The company has said that it will be closing its office at Resolution House in the town as part of a ‘consolidation’ alongside wider cost-cutting in its operations at the Woodsmith Mine and a major reduction of capital investment.
From mid-December, the company will no longer operate from Resolution House in Scarborough or from its site office at Wilton International in Redcar.
It is expected that there will be a further 450 job losses between now and mid-next year, according to North Yorkshire Council.
Anglo American, which announced more than 100 job losses at the fertiliser mine this summer, said it had made the decision to consolidate its team at “one location at Woodsmith Mine on a temporary basis during the slowdown”.
PD Ports says it is taking action to clean up the iconic South Gare and tackle a sharp rise in anti-social behaviour at the site.
With more, here’s Zetland FM’s Laura Cooper:
This summer saw the gare overwhelmed with campervans and other vehicles, often staying for extended periods and leaving behind litter and other waste, which escalated due to the site being incorrectly highlighted as a free or ‘wild’ camping site on social media.
PD Ports says that the large number of vehicles in the area also blocked emergency vehicle access and is compromising the company’s own operational activities in the area and that of the licenced tenants on the site, including fishermen and conservation groups.
A height restriction barrier and other infrastructure is now being installed on South Gare Road, at the boundary of PD Ports’ private land, to manage and safeguard the operational and environmental needs of the area.
